Sustainable Energy in the Ecological Hotel in Allgäu
The sun in the cellar: with the solar energy 5-star concept
Warmth, light, energy ... are essential for our well-being. But they are not always easily found or accessible without limits. That's why we have been implementing the Solar energy 5-star concept since 2014 in out hotel. We want to prove that we can combine responsible handling of our resources with modern comfort in a 4-star spa hotel.

The Eggensberger Energy Concept
From a global perspective, we still have a long way to go. But in our hotel it is already a reality: The energy revolution!
Our very own thermal power station generates electricity and heat from biogas that is obtained only 40km away from agricultural remains and leftover food, part of which comes from our own hotel kitchen. The truck that picks up our leftover food is also fuelled with biogas.
1,000m² of solar panels on our roof – the largest hotel solar installation of its kind in Germany – transform the rays of the sun to electricity. The electricity is stored in recyclable led-gel batteries in our basement so it is available during the night and peak periods.
Through heat recovery we can re-use the energy from the swimming pool, and the cooling and ventilations systems. In addition we have improved the thermal insulation in the entire complex to save even more energy.
Most of the energy we need in our hotel is produced and used here on-site: a closed and ecologically sustainable circuit. The rest of our energy needs come completely from certified hydropower - contractually guaranteed.
The first climate-neutral hotel in the Allgäu region
Aside from producing and using renewable energy, our engagement in the areas of e-mobility and organic cuisine has a positive effect on our hotel's carbon footprint. Unavoidable CO2 emmissions are compensated for by supporting reforestation and wind power projects.
We are proud of the results: The organic hotel Eggensberger is the first hotel in the Allgäu region that has a completely neutral carbon footprint!
Sustainable thinking & actions pay
Our example proves: It is possible to be in the black while thinking green. We save a large part of our annual energy costs by investing in our energy. We invest our savings in turn in furthering our ecological commitment! The savings make it possible to buy regionally produced biogas for our guest car and a thermal power station. We also finance our offset projects through our savings.
